Opel Unveils Experimental Concept EV with Innovative Features
Opel, the German automaker now part of Stellantis, has taken the automotive world by storm with the debut of its Experimental battery-powered crossover concept car. This concept not only showcases a unique design direction but also introduces cutting-edge technology integration that could shape the future of Opel’s production vehicles.

Scheduled to make its public debut at the IAA Mobility show in Munich, the Experimental EV is built upon Stellantis’ state-of-the-art BEV platform, likely the STLA platform, showcasing Opel’s commitment to electric mobility and innovation.
This compact all-electric crossover concept, positioned in the European C segment, offers dimensions similar to the Opel Grandland, underpinned by the STLA Medium platform. It boasts an all-wheel drive system and a remarkable steer-by-wire feature that allows the steering wheel to be folded away when not in use, optimizing interior space.
One of the most distinctive aspects of the Experimental EV is its chrome-free exterior. Opel has replaced traditional chrome accents with dynamic lighting elements and striking graphics that emphasize the coupe crossover’s proportions. The front end features an illuminated Opel Blitz emblem and a signature compass, flanked by sleek headlights. The rear boasts futuristic tail lights, completing the concept’s modern appearance.
Aerodynamic efficiency plays a vital role in the Experimental EV’s design. The vehicle incorporates air flaps at the front and rear, along with an adaptable rear diffuser that responds to driving conditions. The collaboration with Goodyear has resulted in recycled rubber tires mounted on Ronal wheels with an aerodynamic design.
Opel’s Chief Designer, Mark Adams, emphasized that the Experimental concept embodies the brand’s design philosophy, hinting at the styling direction for future production models. Inside, Opel’s Space Detox concept ensures ample space, achieved through lightweight seats, a retractable steering wheel, and a focus on essential driving elements. The cabin feels spacious, similar to a D-segment vehicle.
Augmented reality takes center stage in the interior, replacing traditional screens with a projection system that displays information and entertainment above the dashboard. The concept takes a leap forward by integrating 180-degree cameras into the C-pillars, replacing conventional side mirrors.
