Tesla Model S Plaid Track Package Unlocks 200-MPH Top Speed
Tesla is set to offer a Track package for the Model S Plaid, allowing the electric sedan to reach a top speed of 200 mph. The package includes carbon-ceramic brakes, new 20-inch aluminum wheels, and Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R tires. The additional performance features come at a cost of $20,000, although the carbon-ceramic brakes can be purchased separately.
In an update, Tesla announced that a track-package-equipped Model S Plaid recently set a new production EV lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The Plaid completed the lap in 7:25.231, though the record has yet to be officially posted on the Nürburgring website.
The introduction of the Track package follows Tesla’s earlier promise to enhance the Model S Plaid’s performance capabilities. Previously, the electric sedan’s top speed was limited to 162 mph due to brake limitations, despite its impressive acceleration of 0-60 mph in just 2.1 seconds. The upgraded brakes, consisting of six-piston forged front calipers and four-piston forged rear calipers, along with carbon-ceramic rotors, address this limitation.
The Track package also includes new wheels and tires. Tesla’s “Zero-G” aluminum forged wheels are wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R tires, providing enhanced grip and performance. While the package is designed to be compatible with the 21-inch “Arachnid” wheels, it is not compatible with the 19-inch “Tempest” rollers.
The price of the Track package is listed as “$15,000-$20,000.” It is believed that the $15,000 price includes the carbon-ceramic brake kit separately, while the full $20,000 price includes the complete Track package with wheels and tires. The Model S Plaid Track package will be available in June 2023 and can be retrofitted to 2021 and newer Plaid models.
